Beautiful day to cruise!
We started our trip at the Regatta Point Yacht Club, formerly Dozier's. We only had one night there to begin with since we were going to Zimmerman's for bottom work. At 7:15 am on Tuesday we got the call from Zimmerman's that they were ready for us, so we quickly untied and went around the bend. Getting off the Izzy and me off the boat while in the slings was a challenge but we used her ramp and made it off safely. My good friend Pam came from Norfolk and picked us up to spend the time with her, this way Izzy and I didn't have to go up and down a ladder on and off the boat. Hal stayed with the boat and did some of his own maintenance projects.
Wayne, Owen, Dennis, Craig, and Bay at Zimmerman's all did an amazing job on Gemini.
Izzy and I had a wonderful time in Norfolk, hanging with Pam and Gary. She lives in a beautiful neighborhood called Riverview. We walked and sat on her beautiful porch and backyard with views of the river. Pam drove me around and toured Norfolk area. On Friday she brought us back to the boat which got put back in the water around one. During my time at Pam's I researched places to go for the week while Cashelmara was still on the hard. After finally deciding on several two night stops I had a plan. Mother Nature did not like that plan and decided to have a Nor'Easter come in. We had to stay at Regatta Point for another week.
Regatta Point Marina.
There were white caps in the river and bay.
Regatta Point wasn't a bad place to stay since Don, Mike and Terry are so very nice. There is a beautiful porch and a great captains lounge. Unfortunately, with the northerly winds we were rocking quite a bit during the storm. At the marina were several other loopers: Mike and Barbara Bruhn on The Jackie B III, Jack Shuff and JoAnn Harper on Jackpot, Tracy and Stewart Kelly on Dog House, Annie and Gary W on S.L.O. Dancer, Mike and Bonnie O'Shea on Wild Rover. Kevin and Lisa Bemrich were at Deltaville Marina, just a little ways away and Chris and Mary were at Zimmerman's. We had a pizza party one night in the captains lounge and we had a game afternoon one day. We all got boat projects done, laundry and provisioning. There was a great seafood shop called J. and W. Seafood where we bought fresh fish and great crab cakes. The food store is at the end of town, 3 miles from the marina but there is a courtesy car and bikes to use.
Pizza party in the lounge.
Big crew of loopers at Deltaville Tap and Raw Bar!
On Thursday evening we all went to Deltaville Tap and Raw Bar. Mike and Teresa Murray from Compass Rose, Mike and Michelle from Sunset also joined us. As we were leaving we saw Joey and Anne from Out of the Blue. I didn't know they had anchored out near this marina. We are so happy they got their boat repaired and are continuing to finish the loop. Everyone was headed out on Friday, as that was the first day we could go. There would be a lot of boat movement that day!
