Travel Day 89 to Fort Myers, FL 12/8/21

3700 NM! WOW! We can't believe we have traveled all the way from New York and now we are in Florida. It seems surreal. We arrived at Fort Myers Yacht Basin and went to the fuel dock. We took on fuel here since we haven't fueled up since Bay St. Louis, MS. When I had called to make the reservations the fuel was $3.71 with the discount, at the pumps now it was $3.24 with the discount. Nice savings. We took on 212 gallons of diesel. Not bad since we traveled 638 NM and used the generator for 34 hours. This boat is very fuel efficient. We determined we use 1.8 gallons an hour and 4 mpg.

Fort Myers had fixed docks. I dislike fixed docks because it is so hard to get on and off. In St. Petersburg we needed a ladder but here we were able to get off and on from the cockpit. The dock master was so friendly and helpful along with our neighbor boaters. Ron and Sonja on

Helluva Life were at the marina. They are staying until February. By the time we were in our slip and settled it was almost 1700 so we went to check in.

Our dear long time friend Nancy Mancini came from Port Charlotte to visit us. Hal has known her since freshman year of high school. (We won't get in to how many years that is.) After a visit on the

boat, Brenda and Sonny joined us for dinner. We went to Izzy's Fish and Oyster House, The food was good, the service was not and it was very loud. Surprisingly busy for a Wednesday night. All of the restaurants and shops are two blocks from the marina making a great location.

Some artwork in front of the art center.

After doing the laundry, Brenda, Mary, Skipper and I went into town to shop and explore. There were some nice stores with interesting artwork and jewelry along with clothes.

The Christmas Tree during the day and lit at night.

We picked out a restaurant for dinner since it was our 'last supper' with Brenda and Sonny. Unfortunately, when we went to the restaurant Capone's there was a 45 minute wait and we would have to split up. We decided to go to Ford's Garage. My long time friend, Ellen Levine, joined us for dinner. We have know each other since 1988. She lives in Fort Myers and it was great to see her. Ron from Helluva Life also joined us too. We will definitely miss Brenda and Sonny.

We knew there was going to be fog in the morning, but we decided to be ready at 8:00 in case we could leave to the next stop. Unfortunately we couldn't leave until 9:50.
