Our departure was delayed by 3.5 hours due to fog. We originally wanted to leave at 8:00 but had to wait since Tampa Bay was closed by the USCG. When it lifted we left but there was continuous fog along the way. We had to have to fog horn blowing. The ride was interesting to say the least. We would have clear sight and then banks of fog.
Since we arrived so late we were unable to walk the town or see the sights. We did see the statue of Unconditional Surrender. It was right in front of the marina. There was a park with a bike and walking path right in front of the marina. There were dock hands to take our lines as we got in but when we went to check in, everyone had left since it was 1700. There was a locked gate to get to the boats and we obviously needed the code. After talking to some other people who worked there we got the code. When we checked in the next morning, they offered us a welcome packet and WIFI code but we were leaving anyway.
ToniAnn and I after a great visit.
My friend from New York who moved down to Lakewood Ranch in 2019 was able to come for dinner. ToniAnn, her husband Joe and their son Jack toured the boat and then we all went to eat. Mary, Chris, Skipper, Brenda, Sonny, ToniAnn and her family and Hal and I sat at a table on the patio. There was an amazing violinist playing on the upper patio. We really enjoyed listening to him as we ate. The service and food were great. We were also joined by friends of Mary's. They were two couples that originally were from Long Island and now live in the Sarasota area. They had a tour of our boats and then sat for some drinks on Cashelmara. It was a nice evening.
We had to leave after 10:00 due to some fog. So we had a few minutes to walk around.
The marina played taps and rang the bells at 1300 in support of the military men and women who have sacrificed for us.
