Travel Day 64 to Grand Harbor Marina, MS 10/28/21

We had a really long day again, leaving at first light, 6:40 am, and going 10.75 hours and 49.1 miles. It was windy and rainy with gusts up to 25 knots but we were determined to get to Grand Harbor to catch up with our friends and wait out the days until we could move south.

We passed through where Alabama, Tennessee and Mississippi meet.

Going towards the Pickwick Lock, we were able to contact the lock master John. He had us wait just a little while for a small bass fishing boat to get up to us.

Grand harbor is located on Divide Cut. At this point we are 414' above sea level. We are now on the Tenn-Tom Waterway. It connects the Tennessee River and the Tombigbee River at Demopolis, AL. The canal to connect these waterways was started in 1972 and finished in June 1985, 6 months ahead of schedule. It moved more earth than was moved in the construction of the Panama Canal. It has been designated as a marine national highway. We will lock down 341' over the distance of 450.4 miles. The Tenn-Tom Waterway is divided into three sections, Divide Cut, the Canal Section, and the River. At Demopolis, we start on the Black Warrior- Tombigbee Waterway.

It was great to have the "band back together" at the marina. We were with Brenda and Sonny on New Hope, Jack and JoAnn on Jackpot and David and Lynn on Knot Fast. Chris and Mary were able to dock on the other side of the pier from us and we were all together. We were even able to visit with Ron and Karen from Knot Ready. They are staying in there RV because their boat is on the hard getting bottom work done in order to sell it.

The first night we all went to Hagy's Catfish Hotel and enjoyed great service and a good meal. We were a party of 12 and they accommodated us easily.

Grand Harbor has three courtesy vehicles so it was easy to schedule getting out to dinner and provisioning. We provisioned with David and Lynn and got what we needed at the local Walmart. Walmart has become our go-to place since they have everything.

Saturday, Lisa from Perfect Seas organized docktails in the lounge of the office building. It was great to meet other loopers. We will be traveling with some of them and seeing on the river.

Sunday we were able to get the cars again and go to dinner with Ron and Karen one last time. We went to Top of The River this time.
