Kentucky Lock and Dam
We were 7 boats leaving Paducah. This is where everyone has to make the decision whether to continue up the Ohio River to the Cumberland River and go through the Barkley Lock and Dam or enter the Tennessee River and go through the Kentucky Lock and Dam. Typically recreational boaters choose the route through the Barkley Lock since there is less commercial traffic. Just before casting off our lines Hal contacted the lock master at the Kentucky Lock and Dam. Josh the lock master told us to come down and he would lock us through. We left at 7 am with all the others following including Cashelmara, Jackpot, New Hope, Anna Mae, Last Arrow, and Dolce Vita. As we approached the lock a large barge and tug followed us, however the lock master was so good and let all seven of us in before him. We had little wait time, just the time it took to get the barge in the lock out , the next boat down and the we were in to go up. There were not enough working floating bollards so we needed to raft up. Cashelmara rafted up on us. It was 57 feet up!
Green Turtle Bay Resort and Marina was beautiful. They were extremely helpful with courtesy cars, and shuttles. There were also golf carts to rent for the day. The marina boasts three restaurants and three pools on the premises. The ships store is well stocked and also on premises. The gym and spa are also on the grounds. We ate the Thirsty Turtle when we arrived for our linner. As I was boarding the boat I met a man who told me he reads my blog. That made me feel so nice. He said we are ahead of him so he uses it to see what is coming up.
We arranged a car rental for the week so Chris and Mary could take us to the airport and pick us up. As Hal and Chris went to get the car the ladies took advantage of the courtesy car and explored town. First stop was a liquor store where we tried some moonshine. The store was fully stocked with a variety of bourbon's and whiskey besides all the usual wines and liquors.
Next stop was the Pink Tractor. It was a really nice store filled with fall clothes, which we unfortunately or fortunately don't need since we are going south. From there we wandered around Patti's Settlement, going through one quaint store after another. The area is beautiful with trees, waterfall, koi pond and nice sitting areas. I brought Sydney back there when we returned from NY.

Hal and I traveled back to NY on 10/6/21 for my infusion and Jamie and Lee Winkler's wedding. We stayed at my cousin's Greg and Anne's beautiful condo in Manhasset. They could not have been more accommodating. It was wonderful to spend time with them (not in a hospital setting).

After all the doctor visits we were able to visit with friends and family. On Friday night we had dinner with Trish and Mark Einhorn, Kelly and Mike Harris, Rita and John Graves, Suzanne Golder and Paul, Kat Graves and Regina Zick. It was so nice to catch up with everyone.
Saturday was the wedding that my friend Jayne and Alan had been planning for over 2 years. We all had a blast. Hal and I sat with my work friends and Evan and Sydney sat at the camp friend table. We danced the night away.
Sunday Hal was able to winterize the Mako for Evan and brand it to the club for the winter. It only needs to be cleaned and shrink wrapped and it is ready.
We traveled back to Nashville with Sydney with us. Mary and Chris were at the airport waiting for us. JoAnn and Jack, Brenda and Sonny were originally supposed to leave on the 11th but because of the weather they stayed an extra day. We were able to have another last supper with them at Patti's Settlement. We sat in the peacock room this time. Previously we were in the Nativity room.
Walking back from town Sydney and I took a few pictures. There is a tiny house that is on the property of a cemetery. We were curious to know if they were related to the people or not.
Tuesday was departure day and we said good bye to our friends. We will not see them until the end of the month. They are headed to the AGLCA Rendezvous at the Joe Wheeler State Park in AL and we are headed to Nashville.
