Travel Day 51 to Kaskaskia River Bend, IL 9/30/21 9.5 hour day 74.5 NM

We left Alton at dusk to get a jump start on the day. Because we were delayed by two days we were trying to make a big push. Everyone says not to have a schedule but Hal and I have plane tickets from Nashville on 10/6/21 so I can have my other infusion and we can attend a wedding. We are leaving the boat at Green Turtle Bay Resort and Marina.

Mel Price Lock and Dam.

Chain of Rocks Lock and Dam

Locking through with two tows

Leaving Alton we went right over to the Mel Price Lock and Dam. We had no wait and went right into the chamber. After that lock is the Chain of Rock Lock. Again we went right in and did not have a wait. This enabled us to go further today. The locks themselves did not take too long to get through.

After the Chain of Rock Lock we passed the St. Louis downtown area and the arch. Unfortunately, the webcam was not working for us to get our picture going past it.

We were making good time so we decided to skip Hoppies in Kimmswick, MO. We continued on hoping to get all the way to Kaskaskia. The Kaskaskia Lock wall was having dredging work done so it could not be used as a place to tie up for the night. We ended up going just past it to the Kaskaskia River Bend. There were several other boats already anchored there. We set the anchor and spent a quiet night on the hook. Several trains and tows went passed without any incidence.
