Travel Day 137 to Annapolis Yacht Basin, Annapolis, MD 5/19/22

The Naval Academy.

Today was a short run for us, only 17.6 NM, but we are getting closer to home. The Annapolis Yacht Basin is situated in a great location to walk in to downtown historic Annapolis without being in the noise of it. Hal and I have been to Annapolis many times to go to the boat show in the fall and we really enjoy it here. The town is filled with restaurants and shops and there are many Naval Academy students walking around.

This is the building that they have receptions.

We did the tourist activities this time and went for a tour of the Naval Academy and golf cart tour around the city. The Naval Academy is very impressive with beautiful grounds. The dormitory is the largest dorm in the United States and it is incredible. The tour guide, Don Nelson, was very knowledgeable and had been a dean of admissions at the academy in his long career of service.

St. Mary's Church.

The golf cart tour in the afternoon took us all around the town showing us the many magnificent homes of historic value. We stopped in a hotel and saw a hydrocaust. It was used to heat the homes at one point. We also went to some magnificent churches. St Mary's was especially interesting with the beautifully painted ceiling.

Painkiller.

On Friday, we all went to Pusser's for Painkiller's and other spirits. We all had a great time watching the dock and younger crowd at the bar.

Saturday was extremely hot so we were glad we did our touring Friday. We spent the morning cleaning the boat, Hal outside and me inside. In the afternoon, I found an urgent care to go to for an infection. Unfortunately there are not a lot near Annapolis so I had an almost 5 hour wait.

My cousins David and Stephanie Gertler, who live in Ellicott City, came to visit us. They were actually able to pick me up from the urgent care. We enjoyed a delicious dinner at Federal House and then strolled to the boat. It was great to see them and they waited a year to see us in our travels.

The Capitol Building.

This church was once a synagogue and now is two condos.

This statue is near Ego Alley where boats can get a slip. We met some people who got slips there. They liked being in the heart of downtown but it has its drawbacks, like the late night partiers.

Since we had a long cruise the next day we made it an early night.
